The official launch of the Centre for Personalised Medicine (CPM) in June 2026 marked an exciting milestone for healthcare in the ACT and across Australia. Bringing together clinicians, researchers, patients, partners and supporters, the event celebrated a shared vision: delivering more precise, patient-centred care through the power of personalised medicine.

Formed through a partnership between the ANU John Curtin School of Medical Research and Canberra Health Services, the Centre for Personalised Medicine integrates innovative scientific discovery with frontline clinical care to deliver tailored treatments for individuals living with complex and chronic immune conditions. The Centre brings together experts in genetics, immunology, protein biology and clinical medicine to drive breakthroughs in personalised care. Working with patients facing some of the most complex immune conditions, the Centre pinpoints the genetic and cellular drivers of illness and transforms these insights into targeted, more effective treatments with fewer side effects.

Our current areas of research include Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Rheumatology (diseases of joints, muscles and connective tissue), Nephrology (kidney diseases), and Immunology.

Our research will work to fundamentally improve the diagnosis of immune disease and assist clinicians to:

  • Identify genetic variants which contribute to immune-mediated disease.

  • Improve treatment outcomes with a targeted treatment plan.

  • Reduce negative side effects which accompany ineffective treatments.

  • Identify new treatment targets for patients with immune disease.
