The Centre for Personalised Medicine (CPM) aims to understand the causes of immune-mediated disease in each individual and use these insights to develop personalised treatment plans. Currently, many patients are treated with medications that dampen the immune response in a non-specific manner, making negative side effects more likely.
The CPM aims to both identify the underlying genetic contribution leading to these diseases and also analyse a comprehensive array of patient immunological data to improve the detail and clarity of each diagnostic process. By understanding the development of these diseases, the team at CPM works to develop potential treatment plans on an individual basis, looking to provide patients with effective treatments and avoid ineffective treatments with their associated side effects.

Our current areas of research include Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Rheumatology (diseases of joints, muscles and connective tissue), Nephrology (kidney diseases), and Immunology.

Our research will work to fundamentally improve the diagnosis of immune disease and assist clinicians to:
-
Identify genetic variants which contribute to immune-mediated disease.
-
Improve treatment outcomes with a targeted treatment plan.
-
Reduce negative side effects which accompany ineffective treatments.
-
Identify new treatment targets for patients with immune disease.
