Award Winning Glomerulonephritis Research

Updated: Feb 26

June 2024 - The Canberra Health Annual Research Meeting (CHARM) took place and we are proud to share that Dr Tom Lea-Henry was awarded the CHARM Rising Star - Outstanding New Researcher award. This prestigious award aims to recognise and showcase the achievements of developing Canberra Health researchers.

Tom was recognised for this work on identifying a genetic change that reduces the severity of on an autoimmune kidney disease  -  glomerulonephritis or GN in a mouse model. This discovery points to new potential therapeutic approach for

GN, which is a leading cause of kidney failure in Australia, especially among those under 40. This work paves the way for the development of a new class of drugs that could revolutionise the treatment of GN by replicating the effects of this genetic change.
