Ideas Grant Awarded

Updated: Feb 26

We are excited to share that Dr. Vicki Athanasopoulos has been awarded $1,550,366.20 in funding for her Ideas Grant: “Understanding the Mechanism of RELB Glomerulonephritis to Improve Kidney Outcomes in the Tiwi Islands.”

The Tiwi community has the highest rates of chronic kidney disease in the world, which has a devastating impact on their health and quality of life.  Uncovering the genetic variants responsible for the high prevalence of kidney disease is a critical step forward. It will not only advance our understanding of the condition, but it will also open doors to developing targeted interventions that could reduce the burden of this devastating disease on the Tiwi people.

Having this funding over the next four years will equip us with the critical resources needed to uncover the mechanisms behind RELB glomerulonephritis affecting the Tiwi population.
