Pathways to Precision: Empowering Patient Care through Genomics Event

Updated: Feb 26, 2025

On 11- 12 May 2024 we hosted the Empowering Patient Care through Genomics event at the John Curtin School of Medical Research. The event took place over two days featuring leading clinicians and researchers from around Australia. The first day was a clinician's workshop with a focus on the transformative power of functional genomics and phenomics and their role in personalised medicine. The speakers gave impressive presentations on the various challenges faced when managing immune-mediated diseases and how our cutting-edge research is revolutionising patient diagnoses and treatments. Keynote speakers included me, A/Prof Aron Chakera (WA), Prof Michaela Lucas (WA), Prof Di Yu (QLD), Dr Jessica Day (VIC), Dr. Chandima Perera (ACT) and many other leading experts in the field.

On the second day of the event, we hosted a patient day and invited participants from the study to join us and share their own journey with personalised medicine. This event was a unique opportunity for patients to discuss their firsthand experiences with other participants, clinicians and researchers to understand how our research is directly transforming patient care and outcomes.

The symposium was a success and a great platform to recruit more clinicians and patients to join the project and we hope to host other similar educational events again soon.
